Difference between corundum ceramics and alumina ceramics
一、Difference in ingredients
Ingredients of corundum ceramics are made of corundum(including white corundum, brown corundum, pink corundum and zirconium corundum etc) ,kaolin and small amount of additives, but alumina ceramics are made of aluminum oxide, kaolin and small amount of addivtives.
二、Difference in performance
1.Hardness: Corundum ceramics has extremely hardness to 9.0;alumina ceramics is about 8.5.
2.Strength:Corundum ceramics own higher strength, but is easy to crack;alumina ceramics although has lower strength, but has higher toughness.
3.Wear resistance:comparatively corundum ceramics posses high wear resistance and scratch resistance.
4.Thermal conductivity:both corundum ceramics and alumina ceramics are perfect on thermal conductivity, also are insulation materials
三、Difference in applications
Corundum ceramics mainly are used in high grade ceramics such as mechanical parts, watch cases etc.Alumina ceramics are in electronics, medical, and home appliances,eg electronic insulating substrates, artificial joints, vacuum cleaner brakes, etc.
In a word, both corundum ceramics and alumina ceramics have their own characteristics,Producers choose corundum or aluminum oxide depending on the users’ requirement.
